After many many many many many hours coding and troubleshooting, I've found a temporary solution to getting around broadcasting without SAM (if someone wants to donate $300, <3). This also means it will be a buttload easier for other people to be DJs as well, I just have to put together a package.

August 27th 2010

Blah blah blah still busy about images blah blah blah. This week had some pretty major and obvious changes, so this update should be quick. Some good stuff though, and cool stuff to come. Radio, skin, arcade, RPG, and more.

Radio Overhaul

If you haven't noticed, the radio has been completely integrated with the forums. There's now a global bar for songs currently playing and the forums index has a space where you can tune in straight from your browser! Additionally there's the radio center in the top right hand corner which will have more and more uses as time goes on.

Post your requests for new music in the suggestions forum in their own separate threads. I need song, artist, and album. No new music this week, been doing too much other work.

Sexy new skin - Crimson Overload

It's fantastically beautiful, it's custom for us, and it's rockin'. Crimson Overload is the new default Summa Crossroads skin, and I suggest you use it. It's lighter than its predecessor, so it shouldn't hurt your eyes too much. Everything appears to be working on it, but send all oddities my way.

Project Arcade

Since reinstalling the arcade I can't get to my games at the moment, so I'll be needing you all to suggest some games for the arcade. It's a cool system that I'll be hosting tournaments and such for prizes on in the future, and we can have pretty much any game on the internets.

RPG Translation

I'm a bit busy working on the skin and upgrades for the forums and RPG, so I haven't had much time to down and dirty edit the language bits in the RPG. If you are willing to sacrifice your time and effort to create beautiful masterpieces, then I'll reward you with donator benefits for work done. Type to impress!

The radio is now way integrated with the forums. If you leave a tab/window open on the board index you can have our beautiful tunes poured into your ears at an astounding 128kbps. There are also download links to your preferred listening device.

You'll also notice the new Radio Center tab. I'm gonna let you guys explore this one on your own. It's really amazing and I think you'll like it.

Update Delays

Hey everyone.

Unfortunately, there won't be an update until around Saturday or so. My mom was too cheap to get a surge protector downstairs so my power supply is FRIED. Fun stuff. If you have an extra one you'd be willing to donate, let me know and I'll credit you with donator status and materials equivalent to the value.

Other than that, you'll notice some new stuff pretty soon. Pay attention and you'll be rewarded.

RPG News - Free Donator Points!

Well, kind of free. Mostly free.

In an effort to get this sucker done, I'm going to award donator points to users willing to help "translate" the game into a postmodern sci-fi apocalyptic war theme. I'll be doing the big stuff (like the dragon), but things like shops and such can be easily done.

Simply post in this topic with what you're translating, the before and the after, and I'll insert it into the game if I like it. You get points based on quantity and quality, so make it count.

Made the Crimson skin.

Using bits and pieces from the wonderful and fantastic Bitter's skin that he did for us, of course. The new version of it will be available pretty soon, but it's costing me a bit of money so anything you can do to lighten the burden is always appreciated. But you already knew that.

Anyway, unless there's massive protest I'm going to start turning the RPG into a Sci-Fi sort of game. When it's done there will be a traversable map, multiple races, powers you can use in battle, and all sorts of interesting goodies.

If you're interested in helping, let me know. If there's enough interest gathered I'll make a forum for it.

So, let's talk about that RPG.

What kind of game do you guys want to design from this? What setting? What kind of plot?

Still working on images, I think they'll be done in a few weeks.

There wasn't quite as much this week because I was generally busier and had some family stuff going on. A majority of this post will be reminders of last week's stuff, but there will be some new issues as well. We'll be covering reps, Facebook, awards, the radio update, STEAM, the arcade, IRC, the SXR Bazaar, Blogs, the RPG, and Contributions.

Reputation System - Reminder

A quick little reminder, these are the updates that have been made to the reputation system. You can +rep someone in the bottom right corner of every post if you like it, agree with it, find it cool, whatever. The highest reputation tier is 500 at the moment. There's a secret prize waiting.

Users will now receive points for positive reputation.
Users will now receive points for giving positive reputation.
Users may now list a reason for giving the reputation.
The last 5 received reputation and their origins may now be viewed in profiles.
Total reputation and reputation rank (omg can you unlock dem all?) are now viewable in each post.
Top reputation lists to come.

This is just a reminder, so spread the love and share stuff worth loving!

Facebook Application Updates

That title is clickable, by the way. Again.

Once again, I'm going to mention Facebook Connect. It's fabulous in every way if you have a Facebook account and nothing will be shared if you don't want it to, it just makes login and info management easy. Your real name doesn't even show up if you're paranoid about that, and no information is collected on-site. It's all done via Facebook. It's a cool thing and the more users and fans we have the bigger we'll get. Don't forget to suggest us to friends!

Awards & Achievements System Launched

The new system is now in full swing. I've launched it, categories are up, contests are going, and more things are coming. If you have ideas or suggestions, please feel free to post them! The more community interaction the better as that's what this is all about. I hope you guys like it and like what's coming.

Summa Crossroads STEAM Group

That title is also clickable. Again.

Once again, I'd like to get as many of us as possible online and gaming together. STEAM is a great way to do that, it's free, and it even has some free games. Everything else is extremely cheap, usually moreso than normal.

Get STEAM now.

Arcade News

Arcade scores and games have been wiped. I'm working on re-uploading all of the games, but it might take a while. This is due to us changing Arcade systems from ibparcade lite to iArcade. I think the new system will be much better, and the support is better as well. If ibparcade can pick up their game then I might switch again, but probably not.

IRC

If you miss the days of the shoutbox or just long for some chatting, go lounge in the IRC. You don't have to talk all the time, but just being there will find you someone else to talk to. I'm trying to open mine more often as well.

Bazaar

The SXR Bazaar has been, so far, a minor toy. Its coding is different from the old store system and learning it is taking some getting used to, but I'm confident that soon you'll find it a good way to gamble and invest your hard-earned points. You can also spend them to mess with people and get some nice perks.

If there's anything from the old system you'd like to see added or you have any suggestions, send them my way so I can pass them on to the coder.

Blogs

Maybe you haven't noticed, but Summa Crossroads does feature a pretty sweet blogs system. You can create multiple blogs (tell me if you have issues with this) and there's tags and everything. It's a fully-featured system and it's a good way to talk about things that might not have a place on the forum. You can also just talk about life, bitch, whatever. They're useful, they're fun, and you should try making one yourself. Pretty soon we'll have featured blog entries. This'll be a monthly or weekly thing, depending on how active they are. Maybe one of each.

RPG

You may also recall at one point we had an RPG on Summa Crossroads, aptly named Controversy at the Crossroads. It's still there in all its former glory but I haven't supported it in ages. If there's an interest in this then I may very well reintroduce support and rewrite much of it. It's a pretty cool system, I just discontinued it due to lack of activity. You can find it here. If you have any suggestions for it, want to volunteer in helping run it, or have ideas for the direction it should take, let me know as always.

Contributions

This is a repost from last week, but it's still applicable.

Sadly, there have been no Contributors lately. This is unfortunate because bills do not go away, and they are EXTREMELY expensive. Please, do your part to support the site. If you can afford 15 USD a month to purchase Contributor status, please do so. We'll make it worth your while and do our best to consider your input towards which directions the site takes. I work really hard to keep Summa Crossroads up, but it would lighten the load and leave room for many more on-site improvements and additions if we got some donations. Let me know if there's anything I can do to improve this for you guys. If you don't have a debit card or credit card available, you can purchase a prepaid visa gift card. You do not need a paypal account, though they are free. Most parents are sympathetic to the cause if you guys are dedicated enough, and I work hard to try and add everything that gets requested.

Conclusion

Things have been even more hectic than last week, even if it doesn't show in this update. I really appreciate you guys taking the time out of your day to read this and especially your time and dedication to Summa Crossroads. You, the members, are what really make this place awesome and keep me investing in it. I hope you'll be willing to invest at some point as well, but your membership alone is appreciated. Please continue to host events and do your part to engage in the community! It's a lot more fun taking action than just sitting on the sidelines, trust me. Everyone is here for YOU, and we're all about proving yourself and showing what you have to offer to the world, whatever that may be. Dive in and enjoy the ride!

2x Corruption Weekend Event - 8/5/2010 - 8/9/2010

This weekend is a 2x Corruption weekend! All reported duels this weekend will give 2x the normal rate to each duelist! This means you get 16 for losing and more for winning!

Additionally, you can earn rewards for quantities of REPORTED dueling:

5 duels - 100 Corruption
10 duels - 250 Corruption
25 duels - 750 Corruption
50 duels - 2000 Corruption

REPORTED Matches give larger bonuses:

5 duels - 250 Corruption
10 duels - 625 Corruption
25 duels - 1850 Corruption
50 duels - 5000 Corruption
